Legendary Italian automaker Alfa Romeo’s Giulia Sprint GT is a true classic of the 1960s sports car world, wowing the world with its elegant coupe body and stepped front visage. It also provided serious performance thanks to a 1,570cc DOHC four-cylinder engine and front double wishbone and rear rigid suspension setups. 1965 saw the release of the Giulia Sprint GTA, a seriously lightened race model (“A” stands for “alleggerita” = lightened) with an aluminum body and a twin-spark engine, of which only 500 were made. The vast majority were tuned by Alfa Romeo’s competition department Autodelta, hence it is little surprise that in the second half of the 1960s the car became a fixture in touring car races, becoming class champion in the European Touring Car Championship in 1966, 1967 and 1969.
