The BAC Jet Provost is a British low-wing training jet with a landing gear retracted in flight, from the Cold War period. The flight of the prototype took place in 1954, and serial production continued in the years 1958-1967. In total, about 730 aircraft of this type, of all versions, were built. Machine – T Mk. 5 – was powered by a single Armstrong Siddeley Viper Mk-102 or Mk-202 engine. In this version (T Mk. 5), the deck armament consisted of two 7.7 mm Mark 55 machine guns. The BAC Jet Provost was developed in response to the British Air Force’s (RAF) needs for a new training and training aircraft, allowing the training of jet fighter pilots. In order to shorten the research and development work, BAC decided to modernize and adapt the Hunting Percival plane, which in turn was based on a piston engine-powered machine called Percival Provost. Ultimately, the BAC Jet Provost turned out to be a successful machine and served with the RAF until 1993. A light attack aircraft called the BAC Strikemaster was also developed on the basis of this aircraft.
